I’m an elementary school teacher in transition between jobs, prepping for a wedding, and planning a big cross country move– so you could say that I’m extremely busy. I had been looking for work but it was really hard to find something rewarding to do with a tricky schedule like mine. One day, my fiancée was surfing online and told me about this website called italki. He told me that I could work from home, continue to teach (which is my passion), and make some extra money on the side.
I was pretty skeptical about the whole concept but figured that it wouldn’t hurt to try it out. I remember filling out the language teacher application form and still feeling like it was too good to be true. I was also skeptical about teaching online. In my professional job, I didn’t think that you could replicate the “magic” of teaching young children on an online environment. I also didn’t think that people would be willing to pay me without meeting face to face.
After I submitted my Professional Teacher application, I was actually surprised that they accepted me. I was even more surprised when after a few days, a mother of a 6-year old boy contacted me to see if I was available to do a trial teaching session. She came from China of all places! All my doubts were erased within five minutes of my first session. I immediately saw that the student-teacher connection I value so much actually was possible on Skype. My 6-year old student was so cute as well. I had never taught a child from China before and that was a lot of fun.
I’m so thankful I found italki and I’m happy to tell everyone I meet about it! Even with my crazy hectic schedule, I hope that I can continue teaching children from all over the world on it.
I really love teaching children (and women!) so if you are interested in my services, book a session with me!
